How Clean is Our Creek? Catch and Count Water Creatures to Find Out Date: 6/3/2012 Time: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Location: Chapman DeMary Trail, Purcellville (View Map) Description: On Sunday, June 3, 2-4 p.m., families, youth groups and residents are invited to help water quality experts and students test the quality of the Catoctin Creek in Purcellville by catching, identifying and counting bottom dwelling macroinvertebrates such as clams, water pennies and mayflies. Because macroinvertebrates are important indicators of water quality, the data will be used to determine whether the Creek is clean or polluted. Water testing participants will meet on the Chapman DeMary Trail (behind the medical building at 205 East Hirst Road, and near Taco Bell/KFC) in Purcellville, rain or shine. Please wear waterproof gloves and boots. For more information about the Chapman DeMary Trail, visit www.NewtonMarascoFoundation.org or call 703-748-7575.
